One World One Heart

Yup, it's that time of year again. Lisa Swifka is hosting her One World One Heart event, which she says will be her last. What is not to love about this?! In Lisa's own words:

"One World One Heart is a worldwide event for bloggers only. It gives all those who blog a chance to meet and mingle and form connections with those they may not have otherwise met from all over the world….Think of it as a GIGANTIC open house allowing you to travel without ever leaving your home........going from blog to blog in various countries, and meeting all the fabulous people behind them. As a bonus each blogger participant will offer up a "door prize or prizes"....just for dropping by, saying hello and seeing their world."

I have two things up for grabs for this go-round. Both of them made from clay, which has been a bit of a deviation for me from working on paper, but both of which come from my heart; which is why I decided to put them out here.

First up is what was coined (by I forget who at the moment) as the three lovely sisters:

Love, Hope and Trust. Made from air-dried clay, stamped and finished.

The second is a box of five fortune (or intention) cookies. Made from paper clay, stamped, air-dried and finished. By the way, you can't eat them, but they do come with inspirational notes inside which you can replace with your own notes or intentions.

As the rules go, leave a comment here before midnight on February 17 to be eligible to win either of these goodies. I will use a random generator to pick the winners. Don't forget to check out all the other participants over here.

Mail

I got mail this week, from Sara at Locuasia. She was one of my OWOH winners back in February and I made this little piece for her:

popped it in the mail, but it never arrived. That was two months ago and it drives me nuts that original art got lost in the mail. Anyway, to make a short story really long, I wanted to send her something else even though I could never reproduce the original. We corresponded back and forth a bit and although it seems small in comparison I sent her some ribbon for her ATCs and inchies and other projects she has on the go. She, in turn, sent me some things for my mixed media - such ordinary day-to-day things perhaps but they are from another country and I find them inspiring. Some lotto tickets, bus tickets, pages from an old book, calendar pages, a few little cards that remind me a bit of some tarot and even a toy for Riley. How great is that?! I will put it all to good use.

One of the amazing things about this medium is meeting people who are kind and generous and sharing. My week seems to be full of this and I'm grateful.

"The Look" and last OWOH

A short post because I got tired of scrolling with all those other photos. Here I'm getting what we call in this house, "The Look". He's hot and tired from all the walking around and a little grouchy because the snack bag is in the car, but it's a good view of the gap:

I do have some much better shots of him from today, but this one is just so Riley-esque that it makes me laugh.

And I can't believe it but I think I've finished my second OWOH piece. Locuasia, this one is for you:

There is some great detail that this photo doesn't do justice to and I'm quite surprised how the two OWOH pieces ended up with a similar color scheme. They both started off so differently and under went so many changes. Collage, acrylic, ink, caran d'ache sticks, watercolor pencils and graphite on 140 lb. 5 x 7 watercolor paper. The paper held up amazingly well considering what I did to it, although I think I prefer working on the acrylic paper I've used recently on my chickens and what I am using for my Owl Owl.

Attitude, March and OWOH

Here's a little attitude today:

And the March page from the calendar I made in Karen's class:

And the first (finished, I think) piece for my OWOH give-aways:

The calendar page is so simple but I love the white on white oddly enough. This time of year I am anxiously awaiting a little color in the garden, the first bits of purple and yellow of the crocuses coming up through the snow but for some reason the white is just so darned clean looking (unlike the majority of the white outside right now). The quotes on the calendar page are, "You were born an original, don't die a copy", and "Know what's weird? Day by day, nothing seems to change. But pretty soon, everything is different". The second one is attributed to Bill Watterson, the first I saw very recently but forget who it belongs to. It was the first time I had formatted the photo vertically on the page and I was a bit thrown as to how I would place the quotes, but I think it worked out nicely in the end.

The OWOH piece was going to be on 4 x 6 watercolor paper, I was actually going to mail it (them) as a postcard but I found the size to be so rinky-dink that I started working on 5 x 7 and really quite like what has turned out. I am still working on the other OWOH piece. I started both at the same time and this one I really was stuck with for some time, then all of a sudden it took off on me. I got to experiment with my Tim Holtz stamps, masks and distress inks. Acrylic paint, collage, pencil and ink on 140 lb. watercolor paper. It is untitled as yet but I am open to suggestion.

Hot Dog We Got a Weener!

Actually, we have two winners! I ran the numbers through the random generator for my One World One Heart give-away. The first one that came up was number 21 which represents Locuasia. I don't have an email for Locuasia, I did leave you a message on your blog so I hope you get back to me. And then I was thinking that my 100th blog post (which should not go unnoticed in Blogland) was never properly acknowledged. Frequently they are accompanied by give-aways, so I ran the numbers through the generator again and number 48 came up which represents WendyP over at Wendy's Little Corner of the World. I'm firing off a message to you now Wendy!

Isn't this grand?!

One World One Heart

Photo After Brenda's decision to join in this fun giveaway fest, I mulled it over and thought why not? I couldn't imagine anything I have that anyone would want so I decided to give away something new. Yup, that might be odd, but there you have me. I was just over at the original website for this massive giveaway and see that there are now almost 700 participants. Who knew? Here's a picture of the still white 4 x 6 watercolor 140 lb. cold press paper I will personally create and mail to you. The only only thing you need to do is leave a comment here. Easy, huh? The draw will be on February 12.
